Thank you Sara, she saved Snickers last night, on her VERY last day....Sara drove all the way to San Bernardino to rescue her. She even gave her the cutest name EVER....

Katy and Jon were on their way down to the beach to say their I do's.. and were overwhelmed by the smell of baking waffle cones..

We all looked at each other and said..."Why not" ?

While their family and friends were waiting for them down at the beach, they stopped in for snack. And as it turns out, it was "on the house" FREE ICE CREAM!

We were more than a little surprised to find the latest data showing that unmarried adults now almost outnumber those who are married.

And within a few years, the majority of adults over 18 will be single. A first!

We had our fingers crossed Thursday night --for a carefree day on the beach with all of our couples for a most day 11/11/11 and it worked! Nary a drop of rain fell. Everyone remembered their licenses and all were on time! Our daughter Jennifer helped us with our elopement ceremonies, and 15 couples eloped to San Diego on Friday with our company! Congrats to everyone and thank you for being on time and so much fun to work with! Congrats.... the licenses have all been filed and the photos will be ready in a few weeks.

Six MoRe Pups Adopted this week-- Rescued from death row! Before and After...

Woof! Woof! Something to really howl about this week...

This week we found homes for six more dogs that we rescued on their very last day from a very high kill shelter in San Bernardino about 125 miles from our home. (A shelter with a paltry 25% adoption rate for dogs)

We found incredible, loving homes for Rocket, Bella Bee, Bailey, Harley, Lola and Jackson. You can see their before and after pics-- you'll be able to see why we do this work and what a change a day can make for these critters.

Harley and Lola are the puppies that were born at the shelter, 5 puppies all together, we rescued mom and babies just 12 hours after their birth. All of their brothers and sisters were adopted earlier. Mom dog, Lulu went to live in Malibu with Connie several weeks ago. A happily ever after story if there ever was one for each of these dogs.......

Why are we telling you about this? Because we're SO EXCITED to be able to do this work. We also wanted you to know that If you are even thinking about a adopting a dog, we have some great ones right now... and if you live far away, please, please go to your local shelter! About FOUR MILLION healthy, homeless dogs are killed each year. You can be part of the solution. You don't have to be crazy dog people, like us....and have dogs everywhere. Has it been a month ALREADY?

OHMY!!! We just realized that we haven't been back to our blog in a little over a month. Many weddings, many dogs rescued and today we await the birth of our seventh grandchild! Our oldest Ben and his wife Leah are having a baby today-- looks like it will be a Texas baby boy. He will carry the middle name of Steven like his grandfather!

Seven plus one lucky pups found homes after we rescued them from a high kill shelter in San Bernardino! Our 501c3 non profit dog rescue "luckypupdogrescue.com" is in full swing! Our lucky pups are belle, skip, stella,bogart,elvis, buster, claribel and zoey! Each of these dogs were rescued on their very last day at the shelter.

And we celebrated with seven plus seven plus seven, PLUS seven couples on their wedding days, with their elopements on the beach in Coronado. September turned out to be a very busy time for elopements. We are running a little bit behind delivering all of the photos, but they are going out each day, we promise.

It's true!! Our very favorite weddings happen on Dog Beach on Coronado Island, there's just something about a bride is so happy and carefree she can be "in the moment" with dogs running amok, fur a flyin', dogs barking, sand everywhere.....it's so refreshing! Congrats to Suzanne and Joel for making OUR day.

Suzanne and Joel traveled from Arizona to have a fun, relaxed elopement with us on the beach with their dog Jake and Max came along to play as well. Joel's parents brought Max along for an adventure.

We Take A Moment to Honor Those Who Were Aboard Devastating Helicoper Crash in Afghanistan.

Steve and I take a moment to honor the 38 men that were killed August 6th when their Chinook helicopter was shot down earlier this week.

Thirty US troops and 8 Afghans gave the utmost gift, their lives. Among those who gave their lives were many Navy Seals from Seal Team 6. We honor each and every member of the group who were aboard and honorably gave the ultimate sacrifice. We also know also that one dog and his trainer, John Douangdara were aboard. We have listed as many of the men as we were able to locate.

Christine and Steve Speak to the Board of Supervisors Regarding Devore Animal Shelter

It's no secret that Steve and I are huge animal lovers, we are the only wedding/elopement service around in Southern California that actually specializes in Pet Friendly Weddings. We work with a lot of very, very lucky dogs and we LOVE it!

But there are some very unlucky dogs just down the road a bit in San Bernardino County, trapped in a shelter called Devore. We have personally rescued about 20 dogs since we found out about this place last fall. Sadly, this shelter continues to kill 2/3 of the dogs and cats that enter the shelter, they have refused to allow volunteers in the shelter. They have refused to create a viable adoption program. Odd because, county shelters all over California have literally thousands of volunteers, they LOVE FREE HELP!! Yet the head of Animal Control, Brian Cronin says
it's just too "grim" to have volunteers who love animals work there.
(~~is he serious?~~)

PLEASE take a moment to read this article about Devore Shelter that was published on Tuesday immediately after our presentation, you will see what we are up against. Devore actually admits to killing about 2/3 of the animals that enter their shelter and feel it's okay because that's what other shelters do. In a race to the bottom, they have only saved about eight thousand animals out of the THIRTY THOUSAND animals they took in last year. This is happening because they simply don't care enough to do the things they need to do to help find animals homes and get them adopted. Did I mention they refuse to allow volunteers in the shelter? Why yes, I think I did. Dogs and cats are simply killed after 4 days. They sit in a shelter located in the middle of no where, with no chance of even being seen and await their fate.

Devore Shelter in San Bernardino County has a 30 million dollar budget and only 90 kennels, it is the LARGEST county in the country. Something is seriously wrong. It's a place that works very poorly with rescues and often accidentally kill dogs and cats that have homes waiting for them due to "clerical errors". We are working hard to expose and improve conditions for the dogs.

Someone who touched our life...

Today, sadly we learned that someone who has really touched our life passed away.

Victor Arredondo, Parking Auditor at the Hotel Del Coronado. He was a young man by any standards, suddenly taken. Victor was warm, friendly, caring and the kind of guy who would always stop to ask how you were doing-- sure, he had a job to do, but after 12+ years at the hotel....he still cared a lot about what he was doing.
Victor handled the cool valet passes we give our clients. He was always making sure our couples were taken care of on the day of their elopement. Victor was one of those people who always went the extra mile.
He always had something nice to say and a smile for us.
He loved his dogs and many times he would have a story to share about them.

We will miss you Victor. Thank you for every smile and warm wishes you shared with us. You will be missed.

Seems it's all relative-- Nikki and Bryan came all the way from Chicago to "Elope To San Diego" on Tuesday. They mentioned our weather was spectacular in comparison to the windy city of Chicago.

Okay, we did have just a little of our June gloom, but I don't think anyone really noticed... the ceremony was perfect, the bride radiant and everyone had a fantastic time.
Nikki's brother played the guitar as Nikki and Brian came down the beach to be married, they kissed for the first time as husband and wife next to beautiful sand castle.. picture perfect. Just their closest family and friends, in a circle around them as they promised to love another til the end of time.... it was perfect by any measure.

Congrats Nikki and Bryan!

Susan and Schoen traveled all the way from New Zealand to be married with us this week! When we asked them, "Why San Diego?" They told us.... it was an easy decision, San Diego was half way between England, where Susan's mom traveled from and New Zealand... They loved the idea of meeting at the beach in America!

Cynthia and Joseph traveled from Buckeye, Arizona with their children, their other family members and their friends to "Elope in San Diego". Okay, we didn't have a hot sunny day lined up for them, however that didn't dampen anyones spirit! A ceremony filled with laughter and joy! And from a photographers point of view, we love the clouds-- no harsh shadows,no "squinting", great soft colors for the photos... and last but not least, it reminds us of Seattle and the great white soft box in sky :)

And from Scottsdale, Arizona... Kathryn and Ryan decided that San Diego was the perfect place to tie the knot with just their families. We were excited to find out that Ryan use to live in Seattle... and played baseball for the Mariners as a pitcher. They too had a cloudy Seattle day... something Ryan would know all about after living in Seattle.

Our Foster Dogs Diego & Miss Peaches featured on iePolitics.com !

Not only are we crazy for pet friendly weddings... we are also very active in the animal rescue community. At any given time, we'll have a couple of extra foster dogs waiting for homes.... along with our 3.

Our shelter of choice is Devore in San Bernardino, California. It's a place in need of serious help. It's a place where the many dogs rounded up in the community, or left by their owners... are ~~simply killed~~ euthanized because they don't have homes. We are working hard to make some changes at the shelter, but it's not easy to swim upstream.

So the good news is that the folks at iePolitics have not only been there to let people know about Devore and it's problems, but they are becoming part of the solution! They will be featuring dogs rescued from Devore that need homes right away.

We say "Thank you" so much from the bottom of our hearts. It's so wonderful when people can use their talents and resources to help us help the dogs.

So, without further ado.....we are also featuring our two foster dogs, Diego and Peaches from Devore Shelter. Both in need of homes.

Miss Peaches was rescued the day before yesterday. She is 10 lbs of love, not potty trained yet, nobody is perfect... she does hit the puddle pads perfectly! She's beautiful and smart and sweet as pie. Let us know if you might have room for her, she needs lots of attention :) We are in San Diego, and I know she would fit under the seat in an airplane EASY!!

And we are still working to find a home for our special needs German Shepherd, Diego! He's a big hunk of love, he needs to be an only dog and would love a big yard to relax in. If you were good with training and had experience with big dogs that would be great. He's quite happy to sit in the sun on his big chair and wile away the hours!

Just received the most wonderful,
warm thank you note from Jen and Rudy
who were married about a week ago on Coronado Beach.
They eloped to San Diego from from Las Vegas.
It's something we always call "a reverse commute"....
since Las Vegas seems to be the elopement capitol of the world.

So many couples run away from Las Vegas to elope
with us on the beach.

Of course, San Diego and Coronado Beaches
are waaaaaaay more beautiful, don't you agree?

We really love it so much- when couples take the time
to share how happy they were with everything.

Not only was it a big day for Rudy and I, as our wedding day and 8 year anniversary, but it was also the 1 year anniversary of the diagnosis of my father's ALS. We don't normally get "political" with our blog. But we are extremely passionate about animals and what happens to them.

At the end of the month we are participating in a "No Kill Shelter" Conference in Houston, Texas.

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know about House Bill 3450, the Companion Animal Protection Act that is being talked about in Texas.

We are doing our best to see that it becomes a law. Houston has five kill shelters that kill about 80,000 dogs and kitties every year. We have the option to help a city in Texas do the "right thing" with homeless dogs and cats.

Austin has set the mark, and Houston can follow their lead. The bill would eliminate "gas chamber" killing of dogs and cats, (just passed in Alabama, SB172 Beckhams Bill). It would require that rescue groups be allowed to take animals, like the Hayden Bill here in California passed in the late 90's.

If you would like to participate in this effort, WE WOULD LOVE IT ! We have listed the email address for the members involved, also some have FB pages, and snail mail to write letters of course. Any or all ways of letting them know how important this is will be appreciated. The Houston shelters are busy pushing forward with excuses that they have always killed animals this way-- it's too much trouble to change... etc.

When you're planning to Elope to San Diego,
you'll need a marriage license to keep things legal.

Sometimes it's nearly impossible to get your license for a San Diego wedding ceremony
at the San Diego Courthouse locations without a long wait and an appointment.

We wanted to let you know there are a couple of other options available to you.

If you are purchasing a public marriage license, you can do that from any county office in California, and then use the marriage license in any county in the State of California!

There is a another type of license, called a "confidential marriage license". With that license the ceremony MUST be performed in the county it is purchased in, so if you travel to Orange County, be sure to get the "public" license, if you're planning on using it here in San Diego county.

(The confidential license is 5.00 more and no witness is needed-
but remember, it can only used in the county it was purchased in)

So here's option #1

If you have the time, you can drive about 75 miles north from San Diego to Orange County
Yippee!!!
You don't need an appointment.

The closest marriage license office in Orange County is located in Laguna Hills.

In the dog rescue department, off to Seattle this week to visit family and to deliver a rescued dog to his new family! Cynthia from Mill Creek is adopting this darling little guy I pulled from the shelter this week. He's flying with me in the morning.

We were calling him lil' red, but we think he has a brand new name to go with

So much love and kissing, we thought we'd join in the fun. Yes, we love our job, in fact we're having just a little too much fun-- great photo taken by their friend at the last minute. (the groom came up with the idea) He said "Hey, you guys should be kissing too". He didn't have to ask twice!

This week went to the dogs!

Whew, our blog has been the last thing on our mind over the last week or so, we've been frantically busy. Up to our ears in flea soap, dog fur, belly scratches and chin rubs.

We rescued 7 dogs, count them, SEVEN from a shelter called "Devore", near Los Angeles. It's a hell on earth for dogs who end up there, a "shelter" with deplorable conditions. Each of these dogs were scheduled to be killed within several hours of our rescue.

It's been an adventurous week to say the least. We consider ourselves "dog people", but found ourselves a bit unprepared for the excitement. Little Gracie the black and white dog on the blue pews managed to jump our 5 foot gate the first morning we had her. And before we knew it, she was captured and turned into the local shelter on Gaines street. We are calling her our little outlaw. But because of her charm and beauty, she was adopted straight away by Kristi and Nick.

We're looking for homes for several of the dogs and we are working with Second Chance Dog Rescue here in San Diego. They have been fantastic about helping get us the dogs spayed and neutered and in foster homes.

We have the two little dogs that have taken over our office, Rhett and Scarlett

Schindler

who need forever homes. They are a bonded pair, brother and sister and look like small dalmatians with brown spots.

Cute, quiet and cuddly! Scarlett is sitting by the sunshine pillow and Rhett is the white dog below in the photo above.

To our left is Schindler, he is in a foster home and well on his way to being adopted.

Diego came to us just YESTERDAY, hours from being killed at the shelter. He is super sweet and a BIG dog ! HE'S FOSTERING WITH US AND

Elope San Diego just received another request for assistance
with casting for a new TV show,
we've been in contact with Joanna and this is a real casting call :

A major cable network is casting a new TV show that needs couples who have eloped, or are planning on eloping! The show will be airing this spring and would like to devote an entire episode to a couple who has eloped. We are casting one married or engaged couple and their in-laws. Whatever issue they are having, the show will bring in an expert to help the families work through their differences and become closer. It is a very positive show aimed and helping families break through their barriers. Below is more information about the show. Happy Trails!

From all around the country this week, couples came to Elope San Diego for their wedding ceremonies~ their destination weddings on the beach.

A few couples came from California... Costa Mesa and Irvine, but the vast majority traveled from their cold and freezing homes to warm up and tie the knot here in sunny San Diego. Just to name a few spots couples traveled from.... Salt Lake City, Shakoppe, Minnesota, Tucson and Buckeye, Arizona and Omaha, Nebraska.

BRRRRR. BRRRRRRRR. BRRRRRRRR.

We were happy to offer our beautiful sunny beach on Coronado and our fun, relaxed, low stress elopement ceremonies complete with gorgeous photos, romantic ceremonies and fresh rose petals in the sand.

And work continues (and continues) in our spare time on our darling little yard. We are creating a portrait park, guest house and romantic garden spot for weddings

When we weren't curled up on the couch reading the paper this weekend, we were also delighted to enjoy some much missed sunshine along with two weddings....
1/1 /11 weddings they were.

And both of our couples traveled quite a distance
to elope with us.

Kelly and Aaron and their family traveled from Minnesota,
while Karen, Jason and family traveled from Utah.

Kelly and Aaron, came to San Diego with their children to celebrate and warm up. Things were made a bit more interesting because the groom, Aaron is a twin. We were so happy we had a most beautiful day for them.

Yes..... It Seems Engagement Season Is In Full Swing!

If one were to believe the stats for engagements, (and we do!)
they say that about one third of all engagements happen over the holidays....that's Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

Those very same stats say that's about a million couples
in the United States who officially become engaged over the holidays. Wow!!

We have to agree, the holidays do provide so many opportunities to pop the question.
The food, the music, the family, the wine, the Christmas trees, oh the Christmas lights.

You get the idea, quite simply, romance is in the air.

Our phones ring off the hook, the emails come flying in this time of the year with plans for small weddings, elopements, destination beach weddings

and
what we love to call weddymoons.. weddings & honeymoons all rolled in to one.
San Diego is the perfect place for such a thing.

We might be considered derelict in our duty, if we didn't at least put in a big plug to keep the romance alive.. why not just get married already? At least consider ElOPING.. you can still have up to 25 of your closest family and friends at the most beautiful beach for a fun, low stress,romantic celebration.

Think of this....you don't HAVE to spend everyday from now until Christmas 2011...
or beyond thinking about "THE WEDDING"

Here is a photo of the gorgeous gazebo down the street on Orange Avenue that we've used a couple of times over the years. It's covered and very pretty! All the way from Boston, Rose and Eric had a little bit of rain, but somehow it was okay since we still have warmer and better weather than they had back home :) a lot less snow right?

Veterans Day 2010

This day is a sobering reminder of all that has been given on our behalf, and a celebration of all that we enjoy because of those sacrifices. As we continue to fight abroad, many of our soliders are still in harms way. We take time to think of each of them and all they do for us.

Steve and I have been touched and blessed to share so many happy moments with many brides and grooms and their families who are serving in the military here in San Diego and abroad.... and surprised by the number of couples who are BOTH serving at the very same time.

We say thank you and know that your service is appreciated and we love that we are a part of such an important day for you and your families.
